2018 Nebraska Wing Encampment Day 1 – Arrival
Today was a beautiful day to start encampment. 53 student cadets in-processed to the encampment bring the number of people at this year’s encampment to 81, which is the largest encampment in Nebraska in 15 years.
2018 Nebraska Wing Encampment Day 2 – Academics
Early today it rained but it was gone before we woke up. We started with a push up test to complete our initial assessments. Then we had academic classes to set us up for the rest of the activities in the week. We had two guest lecturers from Offutt Air Force Base who gave us some new insights into things. We ended tonight with our first full ultimate Frisbee game. Congratulations to Alpha Flight (Green Hats) for winning the Honor Flight for today.
2018 Nebraska Wing Encampment Day 3 – Drill, Drill, and More Drill
Today was the last of the academic days and the first hard push to increase our knowledge of drill and ceremonies. Our squadron commander’s inspected our barracks and we had a guest speaker gave us a class on principles of flight. Congratulations to Bravo Flight (Blue Hats) for winning the Honor Flight for today. They also won the award for the overall highest academic scores. Tomorrow we go shooting.
2018 Nebraska Wing Encampment Day 4 – Shooting
Today started off with a pretty good thunderstorm rolling through the area. Luckily it was short lived and moved out quickly which allowed us to go shooting today. The Eastern Nebraska Gun Club hosted us at their facility and we are very grateful for them doing this again this year. We were able to shoot .22 caliber rifles and 20 gauge shotguns. Upon returning back to camp, we had a class on living a drug free lifestyle and an inspection by the Cadet Command Staff. Congratulations to Bravo Flight (Blue Hats) for once again winning the Honor Flight for today. Tomorrow we go rappelling!
2018 Nebraska Wing Encampment Day 5 – Rappelling
We started out today with a group formation run at the track. We did pretty good and are really coming together as an encampment. Then the big event for the day, rappelling. Everyone had a chance to go down the wall and have a great time. In the evening we finished out our academics with a class on space weather. Then it was an evening match of volleyball. Congratulations to Charlie Flight (White Hats) for winning the Honor Flight for today. Tomorrow we go flying!
2018 Nebraska Wing Encampment Day 6 – Helicopters
Today is our last full day here at Camp Ashland. We had an early camp run where we finished strong as one group. Then after breakfast the helicopters arrived at Camp Ashland. We had everyone fly today on Blackhawk Helicopters from the Lincoln National Guard. All the cadets were really happy after flying. We had a drill competition that was won by Bravo Flight. We then turned our attention to getting ready to graduate with parade practice. We had an evening picnic and then we competed against each other in an Olympics style events. Alpha Flight won the Olympics while Bravo took Honor Flight for the day. Tomorrow we graduate!
